Mullaghduff Return to the Top with Ulster Success

Mullaghduff Fife and Drum Band were crowned Ulster Senior Flute champions at the Ulster Fleadh in Warrenpoint on Sunday, qualifying for next month’s All-Ireland Fleadh in Belfast.

The Donegal band were the sole entrants in this year’s Senior Flute competition and now progress to Belfast.

The band put on an impressive display with some young members getting valuable experience.

The victory marks Mullaghduff’s third Ulster Senior Flute title since 2010 and their first provincial success since 2017, ending a nine-year gap to regain the title.

Their previous successes came in back-to-back years in 2016 and 2017.

The band stepped away from competitions after the 2017 season before returning to action last year, and also competed at the Easter Sunday competition in Dungloe earlier this year.

Mullaghduff will now aim to build on their provincial success when they compete for All-Ireland honours in Belfast next month.

They will be targeting a first All Ireland title since 2014. Maghery currently hold a run of 9 consecutive All Ireland titles, matching Mullaghduff’s own record in the section.
