All Ireland Fleadh

Cloich Cheann Fhaola Set for Showdown with St. Roch’s in Senior Miscellaneous

The All-Ireland Fleadh in Wexford Town is set for a thrilling showdown in the Senior Miscellaneous category. Cloich Cheann Fhaola’s senior band, a powerhouse in the competition, is aiming for their sixth All-Ireland title. The Falcarragh and Gortahork based band first claimed victory in 1986 and enjoyed back-to-back wins in 2017 and 2018.

Last year, they reclaimed the title by defeating the 2022 champions, Mullingar Town Band. Cloich Cheann Fhaola also boasts a junior band, which, along with the senior band, achieved the rare feat of winning both their sections last year—a historic double victory in the Miscellaneous category, only the second in the competition’s history which was also completed by the bands in 2017.

Their main competition this year comes from St. Roch’s Marching Band from Glasgow. St. Roch’s, formed earlier this year, is aiming to make history as the first overseas band to win a Marching band All Ireland title at the Fleadh. Despite being newcomers to the marching band scene, many of their members have deep roots in Irish traditional music, with several hailing from Donegal. St. Roch’s is eager to challenge Cloich Cheann Fhaola’s dominance and bring a fresh perspective to the competition.

This matchup between the seasoned Irish champions and the ambitious Scottish newcomers promises to be a highlight of the Fleadh. The competition begins at 2 PM in Wexford Town, where the best in traditional music and marching band performance will be on full display. St. Roch’s hopes to make their mark on history, while Cloich Cheann Fhaola aims to further cement their legacy.
