At the All Ireland Fleadh in Drogheda this year the Senior Miscellaneous section was hotly contested. The competition had three competitors Holy Cross Atticall Miscellaneous Band, Ramelton Town Band and Buíon Cheoil Sinsear Chloich Cheann Fhaola (Senior Band). All three bands put on immense performances but only one band stood out for their high standard of marching and drill, Chloich Cheann Fhaola their routine was flawless and could not be overlooked when deciding the winner.
After a tense wait the Miscellaneous section was the last competition to be announced. In third place was Atticall, in second place was Ramelton and the All Ireland champions of 2018 was of course Buíon Cheoil Sinsear Chloich Cheann Fhaola. They became back to back Senior Miscellaneous All Ireland Champions for the first time. They were formed in August 2016 after a call for a spontaneous band reunion to welcome home the junior band on their All–Ireland win at Fleadh Ceoil Na Éireann, 2016. So two All Irelands in two years is an amazing achievement. Their Junior band was not as lucky placing only second in what was a tough competition against three other bands in the Junior Miscellaneous section.
After the competition the bands paraded from the competition venue at D.I.F.E right down to the centre of Drogheda where they greeted thousands of spectators who came out to watch the winning bands parade.
It was a very successful weekend for Buíon Cheoil Sinsear Chloich Cheann Fhaola I’m sure preparations for their attempt at three in a row in 2019 will soon be underway.
