Holy Cross Accordion Band has made history at the Fleadh Cheoil in Ennis 2016. By far the biggest success story from the Fleadh 2016. The band won both the Junior Accordion and Senior Accordion Titles on the same day for the first time in their history and became only the second ever band to win both titles on the same day. It was truly an emotional day for all involved, many said it couldn’t be done but Atticall band never gave up and proved everyone wrong.
On a wet, cloudy day on West coast of Ireland just outside Ennis the Atticall Junior Accordion band entered the arena and livened up a miserable day for spectators. They bellowed out classic Irish traditional songs such as; Bontany Bay, Irish Rover, Fields of Athenry and Dawning of the day. A nice range of tunes with contrasting pieces. The Atticall Senior Accordion band soon followed an hour later. They put on an outstanding show of such unique tunes, it couldn’t be compared to any of the other bands it surely got the highest mark for music of the day. Their emotional but lively slow air was like no other, as always it was their standout piece. Their Drum major, the veteran she is, had complete control over the band at all times and showed here immense skill and talent through leading the band throughout the performance.
After the results were announced all the bands quickly headed to the buses to be transported into Ennis town for their victory parade. Atticall band took part in the parade with a proud sense of achievement showing off their two new trophies to the thousands who had aligned the streets to witness Irelands best bands.
The celebrations continued long into Sunday night and the band returned to Atticall on Monday night as double All Ireland Champions.
