<\/p>\nThe 2014 Fleadh Cheoil was hosted by Sligo town, the marching bands competition took place yesterday on the last day of the Fleadh. The final competition of the day was the Senior Accordion, it’s always been known for having the highest standards and being the most competitive competition and the two bands in 2014 did not disappoint.<\/p>\n
First to perform were Holy Cross Accordion Band Atticall having previously won the title for the first time in 2010, then in 2011 but lost in 2012 they were eager to get their hands back on the trophy and fresh from taking a year out from competitions in 2013 they were sharper than ever. Their high standard of their own original music stood out from all the other bands. The second band to preform was St Brigid Accordion Band Jonesborough, bidding for three in a row in 2014 after winning in 2012, 2013 they were ready to lift the trophy for the 7th time. Having already won for three consecutive years in 2007-2009\u00a0Jonesborough knew what they needed to do to win on the day. They put on a lively performance that was well controlled by the drum major and their music was played to an excellent standard as usual.<\/p>\n
When the results were announced it was the Atticall band members and supporters who were cheering and clapping welcoming the Senior All Ireland Cup back to Atticall for the third time ever. The Ulster and Down Champions then paraded around Sligo showing off their hard-earned trophy to spectators along the streets. The band then returned home to Atticall to be welcomed to hundreds of people who had come to show their support.<\/p>\n
