Sky has fought off stiff competition from rival companies to buy the global <\/p>\n\n\n\n

TV rights to The Twelfth for the next five marching seasons,\u00a0we understand. Coverage is due to start next year in 2020 with Sky using this year to sort out all the technical logistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The broadcaster paid \u00a31.4 billion to win four of the seven packages on offer, allowing it to screen live coverage of Tier 1 parades such as The Twelfth and Thirteenth, as well as over 200 smaller parades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BT Sport paid \u00a3800 million for two packages, which will include the Belfast Mini-Twelfth, while the BBC retained the rights to show edited highlights in their Saturday evening \u201cMarch of the Day\u201d programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior Orangeman William Prince told us that the deal will allow lodges to invest in top class talent over the coming seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re already hearing about deals for big name paraders,\u201d he said. \u201cLisnafiffy Rising Sons of Anarchy have signed Roberto Lambeggio from Free P Milan, and Markethill Brown Star have snapped up German internationals Lukas Prodolski and Karl-Side Drummernigge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lodges are also changing the bands they hire for the big parades. \u201cThe Spice Girls will be leading Donaghcloney Intemperance in Rathfriland this Twelfth,\u201d Prince revealed. \u201cThey had been negotiating with Little Mix, but then realised their name sounded a bit Catholic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spokesman for Sky told us that there was a massive global demand for top flight parading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe possibilities are endless, China and the Far East are a huge, untapped markets,\u201d he told us. \u201cPretty soon there\u2019ll be youngsters in Singapore wearing their favourite lodge\u2019s sash to school and chanting the names of the most popular District Masters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
