St Patrick\u2019s Day is to be moved to the Twelfth of July in an attempt to find some half decent weather that might allow people to leave the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plan follows a series of high level talks between the Orange Order and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, which saw the two sides agree that combining the events was the best option for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt makes perfect sense, culturally,\u201d AoH President Mick Oats-Green told a joint press conference. \u201cWe like marching, they like marching, we like flags, they like flags. Ours even has a wee bit of Orange stuck on the end.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s time for a bit of temperature equality. Themuns have been getting the good weather for decades, while we freeze our little green bollocks off in March.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orange Order chief Sam Begdrum claimed that the new event would also have commercial benefits. \u201cThere\u2019ll be loads of cross community grants that\u2019ll be available,\u201d he said. \u201cAll we have to do is barbecue a few snakes on the Eleventh and wear big leprechaun hats instead of bowlers on the Twelfth.  We\u2019ll coin it in, begorragh.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police also back the proposal, with the Chief constable quick to allay any security concerns. \u201cWe\u2019re pretty sure that having thousands of people from opposing factions parading around our town centres at the same time won\u2019t cause any bother,\u201d he told us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPlus it\u2019s in the summer so all the students who go buck mental in the Holylands will be back in in Tyrone, so we\u2019ll save a fortune on policing that shitstorm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St Patrick\u2019s Orangefest will begin in 2020, with the spare bank holiday moved to 3rd December, in honour of Eamonn Holmes\u2019 birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
