Over the coming months to get you ‘fleadh ready’ were taking a look at the biggest win at each fleadh over the last seven years. This week is 2013 and it was a very successful weekend for Donegal Bands
There was delight across Donegal on Sunday 18th August as the Fanad, Ramelton, Donegal Town and Mullaghduff bands captured All-Ireland titles at the Fleadh in Derry.
Donegal Town won the Junior Miscellaneous title, Fanad captured the Junior accordian, Mullaghduff won the Fife and Drum title while Ramelton won the Senior Miscellaneous title. All bands put in terrific displays to win their respective categories with stiff competition from across the country.
It was a great weekend in Derry with four All Ireland titles coming across the border to Donegal proving that Donegal is still one of Ireland’s strongholds for marching bands.
This was Fanads second last All Ireland win and sadly one of their last All Ireland performances. After their win in 2014 they decided that due to falling membership the band could no longer continue. Today they are still sorely missed.
On a better note the other three bands have went from strength to strength and are all still marching today.
