This weekend sees one of the first of many County Fleadhs being hosted across Ireland. This Sunday in Moville numerous bands from across County Donegal will be fighting for a place in the Ulster Fleadh. This is the first of the three stages which will be held over the next three months culminating at the All Ireland In Drogheda on the 18th of August.
Donegal has always been a heartland for marching bands and although there’s been a decline in modern times they still had the biggest representation at the All Ireland last year with five bands competing out of eleven from Donegal.
Donegal has remained one of the only competitive county Fleadhs with this year expected to be no different. It’s expected they’ll be bands competing in four of the six sections. The only sections expected to be uncontested are accordion junior and senior.
The competitions will be held in Moville Community College on Sunday 19th at 2pm. The participating bands will then march through the town of Moville.
This promises to be a great event with other entertainment and traditional music all over the town all day. Visit the Donegal Fleadh Facebook Page for more information.
