Last weekend the St Josephs Pipe Band Longstone County Down won the All Ireland Fleadh Pipe Marching Band competition. They were announced as winners after out classing their fellow competitors, who were St Josephs Pipe Band Glassdrumman County Down and the Dublin Fire Brigade Pipe Band who came 3rd and 2nd respectively.
The Longstone Band triumphed for the first time since their last win in 2011, they preformed a high calibre of music that was easy to enjoy for judges and spectators alike. Their drum corps particularly stood out with six side drums, four buff drums and a bass drum, they blended into one magnificent accompaniment for the pipe music. The band had been successful all year winning the County Down Fleadh and the Ulster Fleadh, they were clearly ready to win the big one this summer and they did it in some style.
