All-Ireland Fleadh 2026 Opens in Belfast This Weekend as Eight Days of Music Get Underway
The countdown is almost over as Belfast prepares to host the 2026 All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil, with the opening ceremony taking place on Sunday 2 August and eight days of music, culture and entertainment set to begin across the city.
The 2026 festival is the first All-Ireland Fleadh ever to be staged in Belfast and is expected to attract thousands of visitors from across Ireland and overseas.
While the All-Ireland marching band competitions take place on Sunday 9 August at Titanic Slipways, the opening weekend marks the beginning of a packed programme of concerts, performances and cultural events before the competitive events get underway later in the week.

Opening Ceremony
The official opening ceremony takes place on Sunday afternoon at Belfast City Hall, which will serve as one of the main focal points of the festival throughout the week.
The Fleadh Gig Rig, located at Belfast City Hall, will host a programme of live performances each day, with Sunday’s line-up featuring a number of well-known traditional musicians as the festival gets underway.
Competitions Begin Later in the Week
Although the festival officially opens this weekend, the All-Ireland competitions do not begin until Friday 7 August, when musicians from across Ireland and overseas compete across a wide range of disciplines.
Competition venues will be located across Belfast before the festival concludes on Sunday 9 August.
Marching Band Competitions
For marching band supporters, attention will turn to Sunday 9 August, when the All-Ireland marching band competitions take place at Titanic Slipways.
A total of 13 bands are expected to compete, making it the largest All-Ireland marching band competition since 2018.
Bands from Donegal, Down, Mayo, Meath, Tyrone, Westmeath and Wexford, together with an overseas pipe band from New York, will contest All-Ireland honours across the various sections.

Planning Your Visit
With large crowds expected throughout the week, visitors are advised to plan their journeys in advance. Belfast City Council has introduced a range of road closures and traffic management measures around key festival venues, while public transport services are expected to be busier than usual.
